Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Guitaring (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a free AI-powered guitar practice platform available at guitaring.net. We are a product of TechRange. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use our app.

2. Data We Collect

• Account data: Your email address when you sign up. We use Supabase Auth for authentication.
• Practice data: Session logs, practice duration, chords practiced, and progress entries you create. This data is tied to your account and used to power your progress dashboard.
• AI coaching conversations: Messages you send to the AI guitar coach. These are processed by Azure OpenAI (Microsoft) to generate responses and are stored in your account for conversation history.
• Custom songs: Songs you add with Pro (a YouTube link turned into a chord chart) and the chord progressions you save.
• Clips you record: When you choose to record a clip, the recording is stored in your account so you can listen back or send it in a message. Clips are deleted after 90 days, or sooner when you delete them.
• Your profile, posts and messages: Your username, display name, country and what you post on the Board or your profile can be seen by other players. Messages are seen only by the people in the conversation.
• Classes: If you teach or join a class, the teacher sees who is in it, what was assigned and when each player finishes it.
• Feedback: What you send from the feedback page, the page you were on and, if you give it, your email address.
• Payment data: Billing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details, Stripe handles all payment processing securely.
• Usage analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the app is used (page views, feature usage, general demographics). This data is anonymized and aggregated.
• Problem reports: When a page breaks, a button does not respond, or a song search finds nothing, your browser tells us what happened, on which page, and the type of device and browser. These are counted together with no account or address attached, and kept for 60 days. They do not record your screen or what you type, apart from the words of a search that found nothing.

3. What We Don't Collect

• The tuner and live pitch listen in your browser using the Web Audio API. That audio is never sent to our servers. The only recordings we keep are clips you choose to record (see above).
• We do not sell your data to third parties.
• We do not use your data for advertising.

4. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and improve the Guitaring service
• To power your personalized practice dashboard and progress tracking
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription receipts)
• To send activity and newsletter emails, which you can turn off with the unsubscribe link in each email
• To process payments and manage your subscription via Stripe
• To analyze aggregate usage patterns and improve the product

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Supabase, database and authentication (supabase.com)
• Stripe, payment processing (stripe.com)
• Azure OpenAI (Microsoft), AI coaching (azure.microsoft.com)
• Google Analytics 4, usage analytics (google.com/analytics)
• Vercel, hosting and edge infrastructure (vercel.com)
• YouTube, song play-along videos (youtube.com)

6. Your Rights

You can:

• Delete your account, visit Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your data from our systems.
• Export your data, contact us and we will provide a copy of your data within 30 days.
• Opt out of analytics, use a browser extension like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger to block Google Analytics.

7. Cookies

We use cookies for authentication (session tokens via Supabase) and analytics (Google Analytics). We do not use advertising cookies. The tuner and chord library work without cookies.

8. Children

Guitaring is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
